62 clock to tach conversion

[54-61-62]

Has anyone taken a 62 clock as used on cruisers and daytonas and used the housing to put a tach into? If so what tach did you use?

Kent, if that's a 2-1/8" standard size clock, check out Classic Instruments. They have various designs in white and black face that should fit that opening.

Thanks for the link - they do indeed have a 2 1/8th tach - however, it is for eights and mine is a six....

Also, the single gauge is priced at around $130, thats like 1/4 of what the whole car cost!

Check with Lee D. he was doing conversions on those for a while. I think he took a little mini-tach movement and had a custom face done to match the instruments.

Possibly true, but theres not much left of the $500 car anymore! Has about 1/2 of the body panels swapped out with NOS, new interior, top end of the engine rebuilt, re-cored radiator, etcetc.

Say, if you still have the clock, would you be interested in selling the clock movement (the "guts") of the cloc to me? I have been searching for awhile now since my clock movment had a broken adjuster gear. Contact me if interested.

Ok thank you! I am glad to see I am not the only one looking for a tach to replace the clock/plug in a 61/62 lark. I have been searching for a while now, I didnt really want to cut the hole any bigger, but all I can come up with is 3 1/8" tach or 2 1/16" and the hole is 2 about 3/8's".

I bought a 2 and 3/8's tach from Good ol' JC whitney last year for about 25 bucks. Works great and has a 4-6-8 selector, and a damped movement. Nice and smooth. Long as you don't drive a 3 cylinder Geo, or a 5 cylinder Audi, You're good!

no, unfortunately it is a black dial with STYLISH green numbers. However, it will tell you how many rpm you've got going. I put '61 Lark gauges in my '65 Cruiser.Love the white dials. But sometimes you've gotta' compromise...
