What is the best compound, or sealant to use when installing the windshield and back glass. The shop manual says glazing compound??

Use 3M Bedding and Glazing Compound. It comes in a caulking tube and can be found at most automotive paint supply shops. About $10 a tube or so. It's a messy job so use plenty of drop cloths to protect the interior. A generous application of 2" to 4" masking tape around the window opening (both inside and out) will help make cleanup go much easier.
DO NOT let anyone talk you into using silicone ANYWHERE except between the gasket and the glass.
Follow the Shop Manual instructions and you'll get it. White lab coats optional.
