    Thanks. Mr Biggs, and Studegary, for the information on my '55 I
    have a case of type F trnas fliud. Should I swap it for dexron III?
    I have my trans mounts half-way in (one bolt each side) guess I
    learned some new words tonite.

    You CAN use the type F in that trans. Some profess that it yeilds a firmer shift. I can't say that from experience myself. And frankly, for myself, I wouldn't want harsh shifts if I could avoid it. But I think the consensus is that either type fluid CAN be used.

    When this trans was first used, it's recommended oil was SAE 10W engine oil!
