  • Engine: Head gasket install question

I am installing the heads on the 259 and read in the service manual to apply sealant to the head gaskets
I am using the metal head gaskets. Do they need sealant? If so what type of sealant should be used - Permatex High Tack?
    Both sides?

I used K&W Copper Coat on both sides of the gasket.

That's they way to do it! Just a THIN, EVEN coat on both sides, let it dry enough to be tacky and install.

Make sure the heads and block surfaces are CLEAN and dry also.
The cleaner the better to keep leaks away.

Back in the day, the CASO way was to use aluminum spray paint. I remember having my mother spray the head gaskets, because she had a steady hand. Having had 8 kids made her pretty much immune to anything...........
