  • Transmission / Overdrive: T-86 question

I have a T86 out of a 61 Hawk that I blew up a couple of months ago.
I have an earlier T86 from around 56 I think.
Are the overdrive components the same?
The Hawk tranny was in my 63 Lark and I really liked the way it worked. Show season is starting soon and I really would like to have overdrive again.

The pre 58 models had short extension housings and no slip yoke, and used a two piece drive shaft.
You can swap the roller drum/planetary and the tail housing from one to the other.

Or you could do what the guy I bought my 61 Hawk from, use the short trans and a two piece driveshaft. He put about 3K miles on it like that. (I'm changing it to a 4 spd in the spring). Jim

As long as the planetary and related parts will match up, I'll repair the long shaft tranny. I will probably end up with a 5 speed in the Lark some day.
