Electrical: Replacement wiper motor 54 Champion coupe.

First timer, fingers crossed. I am looking for a replacement 12v wiper motor for my 54 coupe. I replaced the original motor with one from a 59 Lark but I am not happy with it. the aftermarket lists a replacement for the 54 with vaccuum wipers only. I believe this is because the linkage is different for each. Thanks.

The motor I got was made for a vacuum conversion. To fit my arms designed for electric, I had to modify one of the wiper transmission arms, but it was pretty simple to do. I measured and cut the arm to the right length then welded a washer with the right diameter to connect to the motor. It works perfectly and is a lot nicer looking that the original Studebaker piece.

Thanks, Pat. This is the one I was looking at. Did you eliminate the round disc that mounts to the original motor and then adapt that arm to fit? then does the other arm fit directly to the motor also? Thanks for the reply. Fred

Pat, does this wiper motor mount under the dash as stated in Newport's info or did you install it on the firewall? Thanks.

The motor mounts in the stock position above the firewall. If I remember correctly, the motor has a cross piece in place of the disk with studs at the ends that the transmission arms are connected to. One side fits just right, the other I had to measure and weld the washer to.

I have a NOS 12v wiper unit from a '55 that should fit. Has some shelf wear.

Ralt12 Thanks for the offer ,I,m going to go with the Newport setup partly because I want the ability to have intermittant wipers also.
