  • Electrical: Distributor interchange question

    Will a later distributor (say a '57 Delco) work in a '51 232?

It should since one can interchange whole Stude Eights between 1951 to 1964.

Sold my 1962; Studeless at the moment

    Borrowed Bams50's sigline here:

"Do they all not, by mere virtue of having survived as relics of a bygone era, amass a level of respect perhaps not accorded to them when they were new?"

Yes, just remove the 232 two piece distributor and the '57 will fit right in but you will need to use the clamp from the '57 as well.

Don't throw away that 2 piece. They are hard to come by.

What are you into that necessitates the swap? (Just curious)

I like the Delco window type because of how easy it is to adjust the dwell with the engine running.

Reason I ask, I have a Mallory Dual Point on eBay for a Stude V8, and a potential buyer asked if it would fit his '51 Commander.

I thought asking if a later Stude dizzy would fit a 232 would be an easier question to answer.

            Thanks, fellas.

Also, nice to hear from you Ted.
