  • Rear licence (tag) plate mount

Goodafternoon - I am planning to go to a large show n' shine tomorrow in Prince George. Just finished my car today (after 5 years), and I am baffled as to how the rear licence plate attaches to the car ('51 Champion). Is there a bracket that mounts below the trunk handle? I sure don't want to start screwing holes in the trunk deck, cause I know that's not the way they were originally mounted.
Also, could someone give me the exact location of where the side rear view mirrors are mounted on the doors.
A picture of where these are mounted would be very much appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Templates for the mirror locations are available from the SDC keeper of templates, Dave Mottle. Just send him a couple of dollars with your request to cover copying and mailing. With that said, put the mirrors in some reasonable location where your wing window still opens and you can see back past your car with at least the left mirror. The right mirror goes on as a mirror image of the left mirror and is usually not very useful except for looks.

The bracket actually is mounted on the same fasteners that hold in the trunk handle/license plate light assembly. No additional holes in the trunk lid are necessary. That means, to mount the bracket, you remove the trunk handle, position the bracket, and re mount the handle.

Well, we're back from Prince George successfully. The first run for the old '51. Aside from an overdrive problem (that was easily resolved) it was a great trip and the old girl would hum right along at 70mph. Put on almost 600 miles.
The car was complete except for that darned licence plate bracket. Thanks to all the replies and I now know what I'm looking for. Had to prop up the plate in the rear window and it looked liked hell!
Now, is there anyone out there that could help me locate that bracket either through a vendor or an old parts car? Need one in fairly decent shape.
Again your assistance is appreciated. Thanks again.

                Dave,

Checking several of the vendors, it looks like Studebaker Intl, carries
the 1951 - 1952 rear bracket, for sedans, in their 2007 catelog for
                $35(US)

Dave - Post some pics of your car when you get a chance. Will you be coming to the Zone meet in Penticton this September?[?]
