    V8 or six?

V8's on the back of the left hand head, almost against the firewall.

six is somewhere on the left side of the head, toward the back.

Left is as you are sitting in the drivers seat, on your left.

Thank you Tom, I see it (6 cylinder), how can I check the water temperature sender, or just buy a new one?

Make sure the wire has a good contact. remove the wire, polish the contact surfaces, put it back together again, get the engine hot. If it doesn't work, check with the Studebaker vendors listed elsewhere on the home page, someone's sure to have one.

The temp gauge in our Flight Hawk wasn't working when we got the car. The temp sender is a variable resistor that lowers resistance as it gets warmer. We tested ours by grounding the wire from the temp sender and checked the gauge in the car. It almost pegged, so we replaced the sender.

Hi Walter, what Fred said. You also might check the actual engine temp by getting an infrared temp gun and see what your actual eng. temp. is. There getting really cheap at H. F.

check under the dash for a pulled wire from the gage itself, or possibly the 2 wires were re-installed backwards. Your wire will be orange.
