I have a 259/ FOM combo laying on my garage floor. It is the last thing I need to move to get my 61 Lark in the garage. I bought it for the spare engine so would like to remove and discard the trans. I removed all the top bolts and it won't come apart. Does anyone have a diagram so I can het this thing out of here? I plan on buying the books after my promotion in the beginning of the year.

There is a steel dust cover/plate that covers the lower half of the bellhousing . The starter must be removed (and its bolts) and then the four smaller bolts first. Then you should be able to remove the plate, and then the trans will slide back off the torque converter. After that, you can unbolt the torque converter.
If you want to unbolt the torque converter first then you can do that too

If you are keeping the 259 Engine, you will want to keep the dialed-in Torque Converter housing, because they are a matched set.
If changing to a stick (or something else) at least save and sell the Housing.
The Transmission is an easy removal, just unscrew the four bolts and pull it out to "shorten up" the whole assembly for storage if that is your goal.StudeRich
