    The '62 and up was a totally different system, and does not use the sending unit that fits under the distributor cap.

    You see the '57 thru '61 style show up now and then as NOS, but they are pricey.

    Interesting. Since he bought the car as is, he probably doesn't have the sending unit. I see SI has them for 62 and up, but doesn't list the 61.

    Can't tell you about the speedo.....but the tach (assuming it is original) used a sending unit that was sandwhiched between the distributor and distributor cap. Since the '61 Hawks had the 'early' style (ie, non-window) Delco distributor, maybe he can find a late-'50s/early '60s Delco distributor that fits his Chevy and will accept the sending unit.

  • Original speedo/tach to chevy engine/trans

    Met a new Stude owner (trying to get him to join the SDC) Who bought a 61 hawk. Looks stock except the 350/350 chevy engine/trans. His speedo and tach are not working. Would like to help him out, but I have no specific knowledge of the Stude units. Assuming the heads work, what's the trick to hooking them up?
