  • Other: V/8 distributor drive gear pin question?

I'm wanting to know what others have used or sourced for a pin? I have a window type delco dist in my daughter's Lark. About 4 or 5 years ago I disassembled & shimmed it for a Pertronix conversion. I couldn't find a solid replacement pin for the gear. I installed a spring pin that has worked fine for about 40,000 miles until last weekend. It broke on the cruise before the car show. I pulled the dist in a parking lot and ended up using a cotter pin to finish out the weekend festivities. She has two day of drag racing next weekend and I need to fix the Lark properly. I do have another dist in the Cruiser if I can't find a pin.

    Thanks,
    Gordon

    Hey Gord,
Give a call to your local machine shop. They probably have exactly what you're looking for. and in the perfect size. Good luck.

The Pertronix distributors use spring or roll pins, but beware not all roll pins are created equal. They are available in different grades like bolts.

Jim, I used a hard pin during re-assembly. The Lark is a daily driver & the roll pin did last through a few race seasons.
