Can anyone tell me what year and model truck has the T98 transmission? Is this a direct bolt-in replacement for the stock non-synchro M16 tranny or does the bellhousing, clutch, flywheel need to be changed as well? Any ideas about salvage yards that might have such a setup? Thanks for your help!

There was some overlap in the mid-50s when the T9 was the standard equipment and the T98 was an extra cost option, so AFAIK, it is impossible to predict where you'll find a C-cab with a Commander 6-cyl and a T98 tranny.
I don't think it is a bolt-in, as the T98 is longer than the T9, but Studebaker was the best about carrying over interchange for generations. Some mods are required, but I'm told it is not a difficult swap if you can find a Commander C-cab donor truck.
Suggest posting over on the truck forum where the real M-series experts hang out http://www.network54.com/Forum/23885/
