What's the best motor oil for R series engines?

    Use the "search" feature.....you'll find hours of reading on the subject.
    The "R" factor has nothing to do with the oil. It's just another engine.

    An R1 or R2 is no different than a Std. 289 V-8 unless you are going to run it flat out 95% of the time like the Stude. Tomato, that could make a difference!

    Long story short, It really is not going to matter much what brand, Brad Penn or Valvoline VR1 Racing, as long as it has enough of the ZDDP in it or ZDDPlus added.

    The weight is dependant on your location. North anywhere, sounds like 10W30 territory, at least in Winter if not all the time.

    I would think that would depend somewhat on mileage and usage. An high mileage engine with a lot of sludge might not benefit too much from having a high detergent oil breaking loose all that crud, but I'll defer to more experienced opinions.

    Brand and weight please. I assume high detergent is standard. I always add a can of STP too. Any recommendations, preferences or good experiences? Thanks.
