  • Frame / Springs: long spring

I have a 1955 State Sedan Ultravision [4 door] and am going to install new springs front and rear at some point.
From what I understand, in 58 the rear springs were 4" longer.
Has anyone installed the longer springs in an earlier car ? Was it worth the trouble ? [did it improve the ride ?] What difficulties are there ?
Yes, I know that anything can be put in anything. [the "I got a torch and a new sledge approach"]
Is it a bolt in with the right pieces ?
Also, if progressive front springs are available from some manufacturer [Eaton, etc] are they worth getting ?

The spring perches which are part of the Frame, will not accept longer springs.
