  • Fuel System: Gas

I've read where off-brand gas is not as good for engines as brand-name. What kind of gas should I be puting into my rebuilt 289?

Short answer is gasoline is all the same as it comes from the same pipeline. The difference is in the additives ,or lack thereof, that each oil company has added when the tanker is loading at the terminal. Premium brands like Chevron, Shell, BP and others all have their proprietary additives added. The so called cut rate stations in some cases have no additives to keep valves, pistons, fuel injectors clean.
