  • Clutch / Torque Converter: '37 Dictator clutch operating shaft

Still trying to put things together mating a '49 Commander engine with a '37 Dictator bellhousing for my Coupe-express. I was real proud of myself when I was able to dial-indicate the bellhousing to the engine. I hoped to get the transmission mated up today, but when I tried to install the clutch operating shaft from the back through the transmission hole I couldn't get it to go, no matter how I wiggled it. (Yes, I do have the little plate with the bushing removed) Do I have to take the engine back out of the chassis and remove the bellhousing so I can install the operating shaft from the large end of the bellhousing? I didn't pin the bellhousing when I dial indicated it, so I'm afraid I'll have to go through that ordeal again. Has anyone ever been successful installing that shaft through the trans mount hole? If so, is there a trick I'm missing? Thanks. Tom
