I decided to start the champion engine today, haven't started it in over a year. Turned over ok, but got no spark. I had voltage at points, but could see no spark at points when they broke. I had very weak spark at coil wire, almost non existant. I am guessing either bad coil or condensor. Any ideas out there?

Try cleaning the contact area of your points.I have 2 motors that after setting that long I have to run a strep of sand paper between the contacts before the points will make a good enough ground to spark like thay should.

Got it started, had to change the coil finally. I tried new points and condenser first. Hated to replace the coil as it was original coil. Was able to use old bracket after prying it loose from the old coil. Thanks for the replies.

The petronics unit I bought was faulty, but I liked the Flamethrower coil that came with it....until I noticed the hood had rubbed a hole in it. Back to points and regular coil!Dave Warren (Perry Mason by day, Perry Como by night)
