  • Wheels / Tires: Tire Selection for M15A-20

I am replacing the 17" multi-piece rims for 19.5 x 6" tubeless rims and have decided to go with an American made tire. Goodyear makes the G647 RSS all position and the G633 RSD drive position tires. The question I have is: Should I just put the G647 all the way around and save ~$48 or put the G633 on the rear only and the G647 on the front?

I know the question is: do I need the off road traction of the G633? I don't plan to use the truck off road much at all.

Does the G633 make much noise?

    Opinions appreciated...

If I am not mistaken the difference between the two types of tires has to do with rolling resistance. Drive tires are designed to give traction and offer more resistance and therefore are less fuel efficient. The steer tires are less aggressive and have less rolling resistance which makes them more fuel efficient as well as easier to turn. This is what my retired truck mechanic friend of mine has told me. He also warned me about using recaps on the steering axle. Hope this helps. Neal
