  • Vin # location on Avanti

I can't find the vin location on this Avanti for the new owner. If its on the dash, it eludes me. Would anyone know where to look?
    Thanks

I believe it's attached to the topside of frame rail - just forward of the firewall.

Thanks, is it visable? The guy thats buying it said New Jersey DMV wants a pencil etching of the vin. Doesn't sound like I'll be able to do that with any accuracy. Do you know if it's on the drivers or passenger side?

Charley, I believe it's on the passenger's side - just ahead of the front body mount point. They used the same little stainless steel tags that were usually welded to the door jambs of other Studes. Obviously, they couldn't have welded them to any Avanti body part, so they probably figured the frame was THE most durable and mainstay part they could secure them to. Kinda funny that it was the Avanti that brought them back to the practice of mounting the serial# plate on the frame - a practice they got away from before WW!![:0]
I'd guess it wouldn't be that hard to get a tracing if the plate's fairly clean.

Bigsy is correct, it is on the top of the frame rail on the right side. The biggest issue will be reaching down in there to get an etching, especially since it is an R2. The tag will read "RXXXX".
