    I installed them the way you describe, smooth side out. The lip does
    go in, and in order to install the hub, I needed to finger tighten on
    the nut and turn the hub, which stretched the seal out and it popped
    onto the sealing surface. I havent noticed any seepage, but then its
    only been a few hundred miles.

    Tom; are the current stock of NAPA/CR 16069 front seals made correctly with the beveled lip seal facing the right way so you can install it the way the old felt ones were with the smooth side of the metal case out (inboard when installed) and the lip facing outboard so you can slide the drum or rotor on without wiping out the lip? I can't remember if it is the National or CR that is wrong, I think it IS CR, maybe both! I have to install them backwards, which does not seem correct!

    Just looked up the Timken part numbers for wheel bearings (since they were OEM Stude suppliers) and thought I'd pass along the part numbers for your reference:
