  • New Gas being hard on the Carbs. Is there a needle and seat that will hold up?

Todays gasolines are far different than the gasolines that our Studebakers had usedback in the old days. We now have oxygenated gasoline, alcohol additives and many new compounds that seem to greatly shorten the life of carburetors, especially the needle and seat. My question is are needles/seats available for retofit that will stand up long term to todays gasolines. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me? Car is a 66 Commander 2 dr w 230 C.I. GM engine.

Interesting. Maybe just a better quality or rebuild part would be in order.

The Edelbrock carburetor on my (daily driver) Lark has been in service since I bought it new about 10 years ago, for another car, with no fuel related problems. All I've done to it has been to disassemble it for a good cleaning and reassembled it with all of the old "rebuild" parts. The needle was in good shape, I tore no gaskets taking apart.

Another possibility is a metal needle (Nickle plated steel). The only proble with these is they are prone to leaking with any dirt/grit.
I do believe also, that Viton will hold its own in an alcohol environment.
