    Hi, I have a '63 Cruiser. Last Fall my mechanic and I rebuilt the heater/defroster (new motor, core, control valve, hoses, ...). I brought the car to Alaska when I moved here. Can't be driven in winter for various reasons, but this summer we've had lots of rain. I've used the heater on and off but started using the defroster this month and am now seeing condensation in the instrument panel gauges. Has anyone had this problem?

    My 63 Daytona and the 59 PU both do that after heavy rains. Drives me nuts! But, then again, I DO need to replace the window gaskets in the PU and the Daytona. I have the rubber already to replace it in the Daytona. The truck is next.

      Humidity. If parked outside, not much to be done. If parked inside a dehumidifier helps. Best thing to do is to be sure you drive it every day.

        I drive the PU everyday, and it is parked outside. The Daytona was driven daily, until I took it down for paint/interior. It now stays inside the shop full time, until I finish it. Then it will probably stay outside with a car cover on it. But, I DO intend to drive both really regularly.

          Yeah, Matthew, I don't think you're going to like your Daytona when the painting is finished. Might as well save it for me so I can come pick it up sometime. [8D]

          Sorry for getting off topic.

          Okay, maybe I can redeem myself with a suggestion. Perhaps you could drill some vent holes somewhere in the gauges, if that can be done inconspicuously. If I ever get a Lark, and experience that problem, I'll ponder it until I come up with a slight modification to address the problem.

            Hi, thanks. I went out to the drag races two days running, and the weather held 'til last night. The gauges had cleared, except for a slight ring, after a few days of garage rest and two days in the sunshine and started to fog again only when I used the defroster. The speedo does not fog, just clock and multi-gauge. I have needed a new windshield seal for the 10 years I've owned the car (I'm afraid to have anyone bust it ... '63 Lark windshields are precious) and haven't seen this fogging before I fixed and started using the defroster. I'll probably crawl up in there again and see if there's a breach in the new hose.
