  • rear axle shims

I took the rear brakes off my 62 Champ- backing plates & all. Cleaned, painted, new wheel cylinders, shoes, etc. Now I'm putting all back on. Need to confirm two things: 1) rear axle shims go between axle housing & backing plate, and 2) shims go on right(passenger) side side of axle -- thanks

Unless they have been replaced recently, I'd sure think long and hard about replacing those inner axle seals, you're only 5 minutes away from having both of them out at this point. That'd save having to take all this apart again should they fail. Cheap insurance...you've done all the hard work...don't stop short. Hope this helps.

I SECOND that suggestion! Those inner seals are the main and only thing keeping the Diff. Oil IN the axle housing and off of the Brake lining and drums, I would bet they are original 1961 or 62 issue leather seals!
