  • Changing shift shaft seals on T-86

Has anyone done this with the tranny installed? I have the two for the shift shafts, one for the solenoid and one for the OD arm. Was going to lift the car from the left side and jack-stand it up to keep from getting an oil bath when I pry out the old ones. My tranny's been drippy anyway due to the old ones, so it may not be a problem.

    Thanks!

Normal oil level is mostly below the seals, I think. For the shift lever shafts, you might want to grind a scriber or ice pick to a sharp point, and drive it through the metal face of the old seal to lever it out.

If the seals are the same style as on a Valkyrie motorcycle shift lever shaft, pull the lever off,
then run a drywall screw into the metal face of the seal and use a pair of pliers on the screw to pull the old seal out.
