  • E-bay Avanti II

Has anyone looked at the 66 gold Avanti II thats on E-bay now? Its been listed twice and only has one bid. Is there something wrong or that I'm missing about this car? Or is this just because its a II? Looks like a nice car from the photos and description. I like it but have never made a long distance purchase and am a little affraid of getting ripped off. Thanks for any input,

There's a lot of faith in buying cars off ebay, but it sure looks like a nice un-molested AvantiII. I'm sure it's rarer than all but the R3 Studes. The early cars are Studes with Chevy engines and were of a higher quality than the later cars, simpler to source parts also. I've purchased 3 cars off ebay, always something you don't expect but in general they were easy and worthwhile purchases. I would ask for pictures of the undercarriage, and a close up of the paint.

If you like the car, I'd just double check for hog trough rust and bid late to win the car. At anything under 12K-14K, the car is a bargain even for a Avanti II.

In my opinion the '66s (and the few '65s) are the best of the Avantis. The 327 is very strong and I still like the Power
shift tranny. It is most like a '64 Avanti in appearence even to the "pirate buckles" on the rear quarters and inside door panels (only the "S" is blacked out). The dash and steering wheel is Studebaker except that wood grain was applied to the horn button to hide "Studebaker Corporation". This gold car still has the tilt wheel that was offered on late '64s. Everything was standard on the '66s so it will also have Twin Traction.

          Nice car, it seems.
I have bought 4 or 5 vehicles off of Ebay, and luckily had no problems. I found it helps to do common sense things, like talking to the owner (most important step to me....you really get a feel of the owner this way), asking key questions, etc.

What always gets me are the people who, after having a bad Ebay experience, will never buy off it again. If they bought a lemon new car, would they never buy new again? Not.

What is Ebay but just a connection between 2 people? Like 2 tin cans strung between a wire, kind of. It's only as good as the people, but by itself means nothing much.

Well I won the Avanti II and now the fun and stress starts. Sending money 3000 mi. to a stranger is'nt a comfortable feeling and shipping!!!! I could save alot of cash if I chose not to insure the car in transit but with my luck [even though I don't believe in luck] I don't think its worth the risk. I couldn't stand doing this on a regular basis. Hurry up and wait.

Peg trucking does not charge extra for shipping insurance and does a lot of Studebaker business. She even added a flashing Studebaker note to her web page.

I think you've gotten a nice car at a good price. Had a friend lose a 67 GTO to an accident while it was being trucked.
