So I have this '48 Champion that has been sitting out for about 17 years. I finally got it drug home today. Either the wire has froze-up inside the casing for the hood-release, or the latch plate has rusted to where it won't move. I know it is not broken because it worked fine when parked oh-so-long-ago.
I am aware of the access hole in the plate that provides access to part of the latch IF THE WIRE IS BROKEN. Mine is not. I have pulled very hard on the knob. I am afraid to apply any more force to 59-year-old plastic. Replacement cables are hard to find and $$.
Would someone provide a picture of the top side of the latch plate so I know what I am trying to lever through the hole. And which direction. I tried this many years ago and was not successful then. It is really stuck (rusted?). I have turned the knob as much as I dared in case the wire was frozen-up in the casing. No luck. If the wire is stuck inside the casing, will levering the latch be possible?
HELP! HELP! HELP! I'm stuck--and so's my hood release!
