  • Avanti Power windows

My 63 Avanti has power windows. When they decide to work they are very slow. The motors seem to work properly but I think everything is just worn. Has anybody ever put an aftermarket power window kit in? They say for flat glass only and the avanti is slightly curved. I looked at late model p/w regulators and some look like they might work with some mod. I'm surte others have had this problem. What have other people done??

    Thanks

The small motors get weaker over time, and the windows get stickier. I lube the hell out of everything, do a good adjustment, clean the switch contacts, and if all else fails, replace the motor with new, reproduction units.

My drivers side power window on the 78 Avanti II is stuck down inside the door. I hear no motor running when I try to raise. Ordered the special tool from Stude Intl that pops the clip out from the door handle. When arrives will dissamble and looksee. If I need a new motor ( hope it's a std 4 wire - about $195 ) will order from Stude Intl. For now, I check the weather forcast before I drive anywhere. Does anyone know of a temp side window covering I can use to block any rain if I'm out on the road or parked at a show. WILL NOT USE SARAN WRAP. Need a hard side cover or something.

        Thx,

A seller walking with my payment has never been a concern for me on ebay. They pay up to $20,0000 of a loss, including up to $800 of shipping for fraud. There is a $100 fee, but I've never needed to use it in over 200 purchases. Info here:

I was going to apply for it on one Avanti with frame rust, but the seller refunded 2K of my purchase price on a 5K rough car and I ended up parting it out and made out just fine. I'll admit I'm more cautious on Craig's list, usually having my local dealer hand deliver payment.

A little late now, but the "special tool" is also used for GM cars, and ought to be available at your FLAPS. I have one that has a little clip on the end to hold the clip for installation, I forget who made it though.

I think those clip tools are on the red "Help" cards... NAPA, Advance, autozone, etc
