  • V8 Oil Galley Plugs

I have a 63 full flow block that I have stripped and ready to send to the machine shop to be baked, pressure tested and bored. I have remove all the oil galley plugs including the one under the tin plug. The one I can not get to budge is the plug that is near the distributor and within the bellhousing. You know the one that is a flat blade screw drive and apears to be open to the distributor tower.

I can not get thie plug to budge. Is it part of the pressurised oiling system? Does it need to come out to clean the block? How do you get it out? Is there a source for a replacement?

That goes into the oil galley off the rear cam bearing.

It is off to the top of the pic in the center. I use a screwdriver in a socket and an air wrench to get them out.

All of those oil gallery plugs usually get replaced with flush, recessed Allen Plugs.

You do not have to remove it to clean the block. If it can not be removed by a screwdriver socket on a impact wrench just drill a hole in it and remove it with a easy out.

So I take it that it is not a pressurised plug?

It is pressurized. I can assure you that if you leave it out it will leak more than 10 stock Studes.
