It's my fault that I thought the vacuum advance was bad on the truck..I did like suggested, and pulled long and hard on the vacuum advance tube, and though it was air-tight, the idle did not change a bit.
So I pulled the rebuilt dizzy to see what was jammed up, and found nothing. I tried sucking on the advance, and the points plate would not budge that way. So I removed the spring and spacer from the advance, and it moves nice and free. So I put the spring and spacer back in, set the dizzy back in place, set the timing, and try once again...nothing. So then I had an idea, did I!
I pulled the pipe plug from the manifold and put a nipple in place, and used that for my vacuum source...and low and behold, the idle speed increased, proving two things: The vacuum advance does indeed work, and 2) I don't suck.
