63 Avanti disc brake/flanged axle conversion

  • 63 Avanti disc brake/flanged axle conversion

    I installed the Levesque rear disc brake conversion with Dodge police car rims for larger tires. I have now installed the Fairborne flanged axles. Problem: The axle studs are not long enough to accommodate the roter and rim, lacking 3/8 to 1/2 inches. No one I can find makes a long enough axle stud with the same size knurl that is pressed into the flange. Your help please!! Thanks. CBowmer

    Several sources you might consider...
    4 wheel drive shops.
    Street rod shops.
    Drag race parts shop.
    They all run into the longer stud scenario.
    You may have to remove one for them to match up first.
    Also look up Tom Covington..
    He's in the Richmond area (Midlothian),
    and he races an Avanti, and a Lark.
    He might know of a supplier to help you.

      I'd also check with Summit...

      and with Moser (the company that made the Fairborne axles)

        Call Fairborn. He sent my set of longer studs with my axels.They are 3" long. Will cut them to fit.

          Glad to see you are working on your Avanti. At the rate I am going, yours will be on the road before I even get my rebuilt carb back on mine.

            How did you get the new rotor to "center" on the flanged axles?

              I agree, call Fairborn. I used Dodge wheel studs with my conversion.
              BK6412184 used on 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks from 70s to 2003. I used
              the stock tapered hubs for now, but will be upgrade to the Fairborn
              axles eventually (when money allows). The Dodge wheel studs allow the
              rotor to register on the stud shoulder. Fairborn should be able to
              offer assistance on sending you longer studs. Make sure the rotor has
              something to center on, either the axle center- or the stud shoulders
              as Kdancy pointed out.

                Thanks for all of the input. Fairborne supplied 3" wheel studs via Moser, the manufacturer. Centering the rotor will be the next challenge. CBowmer
