bad start to the day - hood info needed

Something ran in front of me this AM and then I was looking at the hood. Therefore I need a new one. What years will fit my '60 Hawk?

Looks like the grill is ok as are the radiator and windshield so, looking on the bright side, it could have been worse.

I live near Sioux Falls, SD so if there is anyone within 400 miles that has one I could pick it up.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.If noone comes up with one for you maybe there will be one at the swap meet in South Bend in a few weeks. See if anyone from up in your area is going like Ken Voight from Armour or he may know where on is.

Try calling Vern Ediger in Kansas.
He usually has a lot of sheet metal.

The same hood was used from '57 to '61. A '56 hood will fit but will have a different "bubble" behind the chrome scoop. A '62 hood will also fit but does not have the chrome scoop. A '63 or '64 hood will NOT fit.

Mike, before you do anything, get a full set of pictures showing the damage. Also, if there is any fur wedged into the grill area, get pictures of this as well. Why, if you have insurance on the car, this can be covered under comprehensive. It also shouldn't raise your rates as this wouldn't be 'chargeable'.

Keep all your receipts just in case. Get a written receipt even if you by the hood and other parts from a private indidvidual. If you decide after starting the repairs that the costs exceed what you thought, you'll be able to document everything with your adjuster.

Better safe than sorry.

If it can be straightened, thats your best bet. If you find a hood,
I doubt its going to be cheap. For years the stock has been depleated
with hoods flying open on the freeway due to worn latches and failed
welds on the hood catch. If you find a replacement, make sure it fits
correctly, as it MIGHT be a "repaired" hood.

You would need to check the bracing for buckles. Typically, if the bracing is badly buckled you are far better off replacing the panel. This would also be true with the back section off front fenders with verticle bracing. The other issue is repairing large surface areas, it's also probable the hood will 'oil can' and travel while attempting repairs. The hoods on these cars are not that hard to find. If this is anything more than minor damage, I'd find a good used panel and be done with it.

My thanks to all! Vern Ediger had a good one which I picked up today! Hellava nice guy, he gave me a tour and he has some really neat cars including an all original '31 President coupe. I'm home and I'm bushed. I think I may be getting a little long in the tooth for these 800 mile daily parts runs. NAH...

Glad it worked out for you. I would suggest having a body shop take
a look at the 'new' good one, and the 'old' bad one, and see if you
can get the 'old' one repaired to keep as a spare. You got lucky on
it this time ... but trust me as the years go on, they arent going to
get easier to find!! This thread means there is currently one less!
