  • Which fuel pump

I've got a 289 from a '56 President that I'm getting ready to swap into Stella. The fuel pump needs replacing, but the NAPA replacement doesn't want to go in right. Is there a knack to installing these or did I get the wrong pump? It's NAPA part number is M2211.

You have to come into the opening a little high above the cam lobe and then push down partially compressing the diaphragm, to insert the bolts. You do have the correct pump (M2211).

This will do to start the engine, but I would not drive it with this pump installed.
I do not use the Airtex copy of the old AC type (GM junk!) pumps like that because of their excessive oil leaking from the through pin on the actuating lever that is driven through the case. [xx(]

If you have access to an original OEM Studebaker Carter pump, the kits are available to rebuild them and they always lasted 15 to 25 years. Whereas this one will last 6 mo. to 2 years or less if you get tired of the oil spray all over your clean engine! [^]

EMan, I have a NOS fuel pump with the glass sediment bowl, freshly kitted and with only a few miles on it, if you are interested.
