Can a blasting media be used on carburetors and fuel pumps? If so, what kind?

Best is dry ice but, good luck. The service is out there.
The big problem with these porous cast metals is the bodies are chromated to reduce evaporation through a basically spongy casting.
The chromation will deteriorate all by itself over time. If you media it, it's gone.

If I rebuild a carb and have no problem with it I'm a happy camper.
If it needs rebuilt a second time I defer to Dave Thiebeault, who will return a completely rechromated, cad-plated, as good as factory item for less than my time is worth.

There was a post here a while ago (I think) about soda-blasting carbs. Use powdered washing soda. There was a link to an on-line article about a simple home-made soda blaster. Try entering "home made soda blaster" into a search engine.

Soda is a very mild abrasive, and dissolves in water, so there is no chance of leaving particles behind to potentially clog small passages.
