  • GT Hawk Hood Release Bracket

I have a question about the hood release bracket on my 1963 GT Hawk.
What color are the bracket and release handle supposed to be[?]
What about the bolts and large washers?
Thank you in advance for the help!!!

I think they are 'supposed' to be bare metal silver, like the throttle bellcrank. The brackets that support is body color like the scoop underneath it.

The article in the Oct '93 TW on the '63 Hawks page 11 says...

"The lower hood locking mechanism was also painted the same black color".

I imagined that this assembly was painted BEFORE it was installed and that the fastners were raw steel or zinc plated depending on who supplied them at the time.

The throttle bellcrank is cad plated on my Hawk, but this locking mechanism wasn't. I painted it semi flat black...cleaned the fastners and left them unpainted. (It's probably as wrong to SOME judges as those durn STP decals are )

Might be black underneath, but I don't think the top side was ever painted black.

My 63 Hawk has a hood release plate that looks identical to the photo.
Metal silver. I am the 3rd owner and the car was in the PO hands since 1971.
He used it as a competitive show car so I doubt it was changed from the factory
          color. just another opinion.
BTW, mine was missing the release lever--no wonder I had trouble the past year
releasing the hood. The dimensions of the manual lever would be appreciated.
Don't think I'll find one-probably have to fab same.

Well, there you have it. Some judges will refer to the Fred Fox TW article and deduct if it ISN'T painted flat black. Some will refer to JP and Dick's '63 and deduct if it IS painted. Some will probably just deduct out of general principal [}].

My money is on it being unpainted from the factory, I know the NOS units are and don't recall any painted ones.
