Commonly, the car maker specifies lower pressure to get softer ride and the tyre maker calls for a bit higher pressure to get longer tyre life. Keep an eye on the wear pattern on your tyres - too much pressure and you get more wear in the centre, too little and the edges wear quicker.

Thanks Dick!!! I am thinking that the
last real time I had them looked at
a professionsal shop, they were set
at 30 or 32. Can't go wrong with the
32psi....I will experiment to see how
    they behave.

The 1953 Champion owner's manual calls for 26 front and 24 rear for the stock 6.40 x 15 bias ply tires. With the radials, I'd be tempted to run higher pressures. I run 32 all around on my '54 with radials.

I run my '53 coupe with bias ply tires at 32 lbs front and 29 lbs rear. If they are the same front and back it becomes squirly.

Since all my references are packed up in
boxes in preparing to move....again. Can
someone refresh my "brain" what the proper
PSI is for my 1953 Sedan....I would check
the side walls for the max...but since I
have the wide whites showing, the psi info
    is on the inside naturally.

    Thanks
