  • timing my truck

I want to set the timing on my champion motor.
I think this is how I do it.
Set IDC to the timing mark on the main pulley to start. I think the adjustment is on the scale on the bottom of the dist. but how do I know when it is correct. No way to see the marks while the dist is in the truck and I really don't see any timing marks other than IDC on the main pulley. Not sure what I am supposed to see if I use a timing light. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This seems a little different than other engines I have done.

There is no "IDC", 4 degrees, 1/4 inch before the UDC there should be a "IGN" and right next to the IGN is the line to put the pointer on while turning the Dist. and pulling the triger on the timing light.

DO NOT LOOSEN THE BOLT INTO THE BOTTOM OF DISTRIBUTOR THROUGH THE BRACKET!! YOU MOVE THE DIST. VS THE BLOCK NOT THE BRACKET! Forget that thing and concentrate on the vibration dampener marks! Also, it would help to wire brush the Vibration dampener really clean! I use white out correction fluid to mark the line and the pointer tip.
