  • Tire question

My 64 Hawk sat in a garage for 12 years and now my ole bias belted tires have flat spots on them. Will that ever smooth out or do I have to get new tires? Thanks for your response.

They might, but I personally wouldn't be comfortable with 12 year old tires (and yours may be older than that).

The SDC recommends replaceing tires every ten years, regardless of condition. Your tires may self destruct before the flat spots come out.

The problem is, Buck, that the rubber breaks down regardless if the tire is going around or just sitting. It's time for new ones.

HMMM, is everyone saying that it might be time to replace the ORIGINAL tires on the back of my 1946 fire truck? I was hoping I could squeeze another 10 or 15 years out of them as they have only traveled 2350 miles! (BTW, the PO did break down and replace the fronts).
