  • Rear axle key position

Could someone who remembers please refresh my memory, since I have 'Sometimers'?
Does that axle key, both of which fell out upon removal of the rear drums, go sloped side up or down, in or out?
Ya do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself... oh, sorry.

Yikes[B)] I just finished putting the rear hubs back on the 51 Champ. I tapped the keys in with the champher end first. Were these keys tappered[?][?] The Shop Manual didn't indicate anything about taper. Hoping this thread applies to something other then the Champ I am working on.

        Regards,
        Jerry

It's either a long chamfer or a short taper, depending on how you look at it. In any case I believe it goes in the same way on any Stude I've worked on.

          thanks,
