    All-
I have a VDO lo-rev tachometer, 0-4K. I hook it up and the most it will read like 200 rpm. Even revved. It's erratic and I wonder if something may be amiss in the distributor?

I have hooked up a tach before and it too was erratic.

The one I have is a VDO 12V/700-1300 Hz...

    Dan-o,
Some aftermarket tachs have a switch located somewhere on the case of the unit. It may have 3 positions...4-6-8 for the # of cylinders your engine has. Safe to assume your vehicle is 12V. Hope this helps.

If I were to purchase a tach; what range should I consider for the Commander 6 engine?

I also have a problem with a VDO tach. I spoke with the vendor I purchased it from. He recommended a tach filter. In doing some research, I found a couple solutions.

On the VDO page, www.sso-usa.com/performance they have a tech support section. Here they list a tech bulletin for tachs. It tells you how to build a filter for a couple of bucks.

        www.Classicinstruments.com list a tach filter #SN20.

I got a SN20, but have not tried it yet. I will let you know.

          Thump-
The VDO I found on ebay was for a tach-gen setup, my bad. I seek some of the smaller gauges like the Stewart-Warner 1-1/2" ones so they will not hog the dash up..hard to locate a matching set!
