  • Help Needed - Hood/Trunk Emblem Painting '54 Champ

The hood and trunk emblems on my '54 Champion need refinishing. Actually, only the gold-toned "S" on those emblems needs help, the chrome "V"s are good.

So, can anyone tell me exactly what product to use to repaint the "S" part of the emblem, to get a good match to the original?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm thinking that brand of paint you'd use to renew the gold in the centers of 53-55 wheelcovers. The stuff is VHT Metal Tint. It's basically a clear spray you can apply over chrome (or polished metals) to tint it. I know it comes in gold, red & blue.
Thing is - having some of those Stude gold-plated trim pieces around here - when they go dull, there's no bright plating under the gold that would shine thru this tint paint. You might have to look into having it replated to get the look you want. Or, just get some high-quality gold paint if you're not too picky[:I]

Here's a site that describes it: Look under "Wrinkle/special/Epoxys

    http://www.speco.com.au/vht_special.html

The "gold" is their product# SP233

Studebaker International has the deck lid "S", part number 304830V for $22 but I don't think they have the hood "S'.
