  • Found!! - Fram Oil Filter Setup for Champion Six

I am close to getting my newly acquired '54 Champion on the road, but I want to install a Fram F3 or F4 oil filter setup. Looking at the parts books, all Champion engines from 1950 thru at least 1956 (and maybe thru 1958) should have the same setup. A picture of one is below with an arrow pointing to the filter:

If anyone has a good setup for sale, please email me at: r1lark@aol.com

Some of these filters had hoses, and some had hard pipe; the condition of the hoses is not important, since I would replace them, but would like to have the old hoses to use as patterns.

Of course, I would consider a NOS setup but a good used one is fine.

If you can find the bracket and filter canister, the hoses are available from Studebaker International. You'll also need a fitting I'm not familiar with to reduce the flow. Others will chime in here.

Ok folks, I'm really begging here now<G>! Someone must have a cannister oil filter setup for a Champion that they can part with.

Help a Studebaker engine live a long clean life!!

      Thanks!

For YOU, Paul - I'll get up, go out and look in the "parts shed". Heck, if I look again, I might scare up that battery tray for the one fella's Speedster project. I KNOW it's around here someplace![}]

Well Paul, I found about 6 cannisters amongst my ju... er, treasures.[] They've ALL come off V8s so you'd have to take some angle iron and drill 4 holes in it for the head bolts and the two that secure the cannister.
No lines, but you'd want new ones anyway. Lemmee know, eh?

And I STILL didn't turn that battery tray up! Here's one corner of the parts shed. This doesn't begin to match what' out in the shop. Of course, you who've been lucky (?) enough to have vistied the Stude Farm know the wealth of parts I give safe harbor to while they await a new calling.[|)]

Well, the little bit of prodding worked!<G> Besides Mr. Biggs, I also heard from Buddy Romines of Warner Robins, GA. (Buddy and I have been corresponding on locations of overdrive relays and such.) Buddy has a Fram filter setup he isn't using, so he is sending me that.

Mr. Biggs, I appreciate you checking on filters too. I loved the picture, even if it took 20 minutes to download! Just kidding, but it was a big'n!! I had fun finding interesting items in your picture, kinda like shopping York, but from my nice comfy chair. A hydrovac, a top shift tranny, a accessory gage set, an R1/R2 valve cover, a battery hold down (hmmmm, is that a six volt one?<G&gt, a V8 intake manifold (sorry Jeff, I couldn't tell if it is a 2 bbl or not), a NICE looking muffler, and a R3 head (just kidding on that R3 head, don't everyone email Mr Biggs at the same time!).

Anyway, it looks like I am all set on the filter setup now. Thanks to Buddy Romines, and to Mr. Biggs too!

Dat's OK Buddy Romines - I know I've provided him with some parts. I sent him something for an overdrive or WS wipers or some such thing.

OK, Studebob, now you have to take pics of the whole farm and send em to me! And I thought our parts shed was a mess! You should start a website... (just for our viewing pleasure)
BTW, Buddy is a pretty nice guy. Haven't seen him in a while.

Mr. Biggs, you might want to delete that pic you posted. How's this? It's a little small, but, oh well. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...e/studebob.jpg
