    The engine has P2448 stamped in the front of the valley pan rail. I haven't been able to find the code to tell me what I have. I was told it's a 55 259 but I'd like to know for sure. As you can tell I didn't build the truck. The Stude motoer was the reason I bought the truck. I will keep it that way.

    It still runs the stock Stude road draft system. I put a couple hundred miles on it last week and it blew almost a quart of oil out the road draft.(all over the right front fender!) I'd like to locate a fresh 259 or 289 so I can R&R without a lot of down time. I could live with a drop or two but it's gettin' real bad. Is there some Stude idiosyncracy that I'm missing?

    Is there a Stude engine specialist? Any suggestions?

    Nice looking engine! What kind of truck is that? The engine might be worn and need rebuilt but i would check it out a little before i pulled it! It might just need to be driven a little for everthing to settle back in. The screen-wire mesh might be missing from the road-draft tube? You could also rig up a catch-can for the road-draft tube so you won't have a mess till you see if blowby does subside by driving. BTW did i mention thats a nice looking street rod, show me more! Champ

      As I understand it, the angle cut road draft tube needs to be open to the air stream to get air flow through the engine. It's working! I had thought about a PCV system but I believe that would just hide the problem and not really cure it. The more I drive it the worse it gets.

        Tell us where you are. Stude V8's are stll relatively plentiful. A forum member near you might have one. The most desireable are the "full flow" 289's built from '62-'64, but they are all good, strong engines.

          A compression check might tell you more about the condition of the engine. Champ

            Couple items...not all related..
            1) You might try to add a piece to the road draft tube to get it away from the fender area, but keep the end out in the breeze...
            2)Your oil fill cap. Open and vented?
            3) Your spark plugs and tailpipe(s). What are they telling you about oil?
            4) Is the screen gauze in the road drsft tube, held in with a cotter pin?
            5)Are you running copper tubing for gas lines? Bad ju-ju to do that.
            (Steel lines painted copper, or copper plated would be ok...but not copper tubing)

              Engine number is correct for a 1955 259 engine. It may or may not still be stock bore and stroke. The mesh in the road draft tube was eliminated from V8 engines during the 1955 model year. A cylinder leakage test takes a little more time, but will tell you more about the internal condition of the engine than a compression test will. Whether you rebuild or replace, you'll be happier with a PCV system.

                I'm in the Annapolis, Md. area.

                I'm assuming the road draft tube is stock '55. It has no screening or hole for a cotter pin. I wonder if that is a later model update?

                      Dang that is a nice truck. hope to see you on the road sometime, I am in Bowie but my car is over at JDP's right now awaiting an R1 transplant. Ought to see if you can just drive over to JDP's some weekend, I have a compression tester in my roll cabinet (also in my toolbox) and he has a spark plug fitting for his air hose, then you can see how much blowby you have and where it's going. I love the intake too BTW.

                        I would think - that with THAT much "blowby" you should have oil coming out of that oil filler cap as well. But it doesn't look like there's ANY oil residue on top of that thing.

                            Jees Tommy, I filled my road draft tube with Mud and the blowby
                            stopoped. I told you to take some laps at Latimore.

                            Glad to see you outside the HAMB.


                            I got to check out this truck and motor at the Jalopy Showdown a
                            couple weekends ago and it is absolutley beatuiful, it puts my A
                            pickup to shame.

                            By the way let me know if you need some Stromberg WW parts like we
                            talked about.
