Was the fender welt on 1940 cars painted the same color as the body or was it black when new??

1947-1952 Studebakers had rear fender welt painted body color with a few rare exceptions for some black and other dark color cars, like maroon. I think that for 1940, black, unpainted welt was used. The only 1940 Studebaker that I have owned, a President, had black welt, but it was a black car. I do not believe that the welt was painted. I am sure that there are others that know more about these models than I do and/or could research it.

I have an orginal, (never repainted) 1942 Champ and the welt is body color.

        As a side note...

'If' you want a body color welting, you can contact Juliano's Rod shop

They will make up colored welting to your color chip/paint sample.
I bought some (in yellow, of course) and they matched it to my paint sample. Great guys.
        Hope the info helps.
