  • Engine # location

    An observation and a question:

The engine number on my 53 is stamped on a boss at the driver's front corner of the block V233119 but on the 51 it's on the passenger side rear next to the distributor V67961.

I've been unable to find any boss or stamping on the 33 Rockne block. Anyone know where it might be?

It's supposed to be at the front of the engine block, between the cylinder head and the water pump. Should have a 'B' prefix.

      Dwain,
The water pump is bolted to the block in exactly the spot where that stamping should be. There is no room between the head and the pump. I have a spare Rockne engine and it's the same. I'll try to get a photo posted this weekend.

Found it! Left side of cylinder block, center top edge, above the distributor. Looks like a R but could be a B25291. My spare engine is probably B11330 from 1932. Would this stamping location be peculiar to the Rockne or were the early Dictator and Commander sixes also stamped in this spot?

I failed to read the information correctly the first time. Fred Foxs' Rockne feature article in Dec. '04 TW says left side above dist. is where the engine no. should be in 1932 model '30' and 1933 model '31', and it does start with an R prefix. Your engine is right in the range of 1933 numbers, R-17001 to <R-30700.

1932-33 model '41' is the one with the B prefix located at the front, but supposedly ranges from B-101 to just B-7450. I have trouble understanding that because B-101 is also the starting engine number for a 1933 President 8!

            Geez! And I thought B-101 was a late R3 engine![:0][)]
