I have a 60 Hawk with a 289 that needs a fuel pump. I have had no luck finding one at a local parts house. Found the old one was leaking into the crank case. Lucky I found this during a garage start up. Does any one have any suggestions on where to get one? I am a member of the NCSDC and it is hard to get any info from these guys. I have had this car 25 years, only 32K miles. [8D]

just get a rebuild kit and rebuild it, that's the beauty of the old stuff. Sounds like you just need a new diaphragm. Make sure the kit you get is new production not old stuff. Alternately there are new production pumps available from many of the vendors. But personally I would rebuild the old one as it has the integral filter while the new production pumps do not.
Actually I'll sell you one of the new production ones if you want... had it on my '55 while looking for an original which I finally found. Only ran it a couple hundred miles if that.
The new pumps actually look real similar to the old six cylinder pumps. I'd bet they are based on the same design. I think you could swap on the integral filter from a six cylinder pump if you had the clearance. I know I tried that and it didn't work in my car for some reason, probably interference with the frame bracket.

well in that case I know that Fairborn Studebaker sells the new pumps as well as the kits, but probably other vendors do as well.

I buy lots of stuff from the vendors. I appreciate their efforts at keeping the Stude parts we need at hand.
But in some cases I like convenience too. NAPA carries Carter Fuel pump # M2211 which is FOR the Standard Stude V8s of 55 thru 64. The guys at NAPA just don't KNOW they carry it as it's only listed for Studebaker trucks![:0] Go figure.[)]

That pump on the NAPA site looks like the new production ones that I was referring to. For what they get for it I can't sell it cheap enough that it's not worth it to me to keep mine as a spare, if that made any sense
I still am partial to rebuilding the stock pump, however. I like having the filter *before* the check valves, esp. on an old car that may have a less-than-clean gas tank.

Both SI & "T-bolt have sold the fuel pump kits from "Antique Auto Parts Cellar". http://www.then-now.com/The_Cellar/cellar.htm .
These kits include new disc valves and springs. A rivet is included, to retain the new valve; or the original mushroom retainer can be reused. Actually, I think the rivet flows better. I've seen old disc valves hardened so they seemed to be made of formica. Fresh ones would certainly seal better.
