  • 56 door interchange

I have been looking for a 56 2 dr wagon drivers for over 6 months. I have had no luck. A while back I was told that another type of stude door will work but I would have to cut down the top. Can anyone confirm what door these would be (make/model) as I will be in the market for one (hopefully NOS) starting today. Thank You. Ken

Maybe someone was thinking of the later models' (ie-'62-'66) door interchangibility? The way I see it- You ought to be able to use any door (from a 2 door sedan or wagon) late'55-'58, and maybe even into '59 & 60! But not the hardtop of course, unless that's the one they were talking about... ?
I could be wrong on this, but if that's the case I'm sure someone will 'chime up' with that info, they always do!!!

If I am correct... and I am not sure that I am, the 56 wagon does NOT have the "scalloped stamping" seen on the doors of the 53-55 cars... so a door from a 56,57 or 58 2 door sedan and 2 door wagon should work... the 59/60 2 door lark wagon and sedan might work with a window frame change/modification? Anybody else want to chime in?

Alzheimers[xx(] I used to know - now I'm not sure. Call Dennis at SASCO and ask what else might fit. If anyone knows, it'll be him.[8D]

I called Dennis. He said the only direct bolt on is the 56 2 dr wagon. He says a 56 2 dr sedan is the same on the bottom and I could cut the window frame off and weld it back on at a diff. angle. He said the 57/58 wagons are diff in some way. He was going to do some research and call me back. Thank You

Ken, I don't want to get your hopes up too high but I may be able to get you a door if you're really desperate. There are two 1956 2dr wagons behind the garage at my folks' place. They are rusting into the ground because the climate is damp and they have been retired for many years, but maybe the doors are okay. Trouble is we live in Alaska, which likely is a long way from wherever you live, unless we get lucky. Also, I don't live in the same town, so it'd be a hassle for me to go take the door off and ship it to you. I hope others who are closer to you will come to your aid, but if those doors truly are hard to come and no one can come up with one closer to you, I will see what I can do. Dale

Thanks for the offer, but I live in Houston, Texas. I have a couple leads and will keep you in mind as a option. I will post what I find out the differences are.

Trim holes- that's about it between the afore mentioned late '55 and '58 doors- and even some of that was the same...
not too sure about the '59 and '60- but there can't be much else!

OK, her's an update. Dennis says the 56,57,58 doors for 2 dr wagons are the same except for the holes. And all service doors come with no holes. And he has none. The 56 2 dr sedan door will work only if you cut the window frame off to change the angle and weld back on (the bottoms are the same). I have ordered one from him and will give you an update when I do the cutting and welding. Thanks for everyone's help and thanks to Dennis. He was great in taking time to get me the help I needed.
