I think I can handle this one: Waaay back in the mid sixties, I had a shop out on Long Island(Nebraska)where I specialized in building "Stude-olets", taking late-model Impala SS's, yanking out the 409, 327, what have you, and doing a custom installation of a 224-232-259-289 Stude v-8's. There were't enough wrecked donor cars for engines, so now that the statute of limitations is up, I can safely tell you that most of the Motors were "Hot"! Not only did our customers have a car that got better gas mileage, it was faster, and something different, too! I believe we even did a few Corvairs,also! I've forgotten the name and address of the fellow in Kansas who fabricated our motor mount kits, he probably is still doing them on a limited basis, though He's in his 90's by now. As far as brakes--we didn't worry about that at all! Our ChevyBakers were built to GO, not Whoa!

DO the right thing! Take the SS to nearest metal recycling place and have them reduce it to where it can be sold to China. (Fact is, shredded Chevies are the only kind that can be exported to China!)

With the return you'll get from your shredded Chebby, you can buy an entry-level Lark standard with a 170 OHV and automatic. Weld some scrap sheet metal panels in where the long-departed original floor pans once were, add some blankets for upholstery, brush on a coat of latex paint and you've got a car that'll turn heads! (instead of stomachs - like that clunky 64 SS did)

OH! And check your calendar if you think I'm serious (totally serious, anyway[:I])

The brakes should be upgraded, too. Chevy's drums were even worse than their engines; and parts are hard to find. Why not a "Fat Man" subframe, and Mustang brakes?

Long time lurker on the site and decided to jump in. I have a '64 Chevy Impala SS that is somewhat ok but needs some work. The 327 Chevy engine is junk and I am thinking of swaping in a Studebaker V8. Would like to have it hopped up as much as possible, maybe supercharge it or ?. Has anyone done this? Any suggestions on motor mounts, etc. Would also lilke to go with a 4speed trans and headers. I think this would be a good swap and a real stunner at the car shows. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Tired of the same old stuff!
