  • 259 i.d. number help needed

Wondering if anyone out there in Studeland can help me identify my motor, or give me a lead on where to look to decipher the numbers. I tried the forum's "search" feature, but couldn't find anything definitive.

It's a 259, and I was told it is out of a '59 Lark (now in my 2R p/u), but I want to be sure. The number stamped in the drivers side of the motor is: V377700.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Looks like a 1956 Commander 259 V8. Check for yourself here:

      I'm an idiot.

I looked in the "Tech tips, etc" and completely missed that page altogether.

Thanks again, Whacker for being the first to come to my rescue. I owe ya one!
