  • Glove box light switch

I need to replace the light switch on the door of the glove box on my 1940 commander. I believe the original was something like a mercury switch in a canister. When you open the door the switch mounted on the back of the clock makes contact in the horizontal position, when the door is closed the switch is vertical and off. Where could I find a switch that works the same way to replace it with? I think I could hide a new one in the old can??

Most trunk lights and underhood lights have a built-in mercury switch that works the same way, but I have never taken one apart to see what they look like or how they're attached to the lamp assembly. The junk yards have to full of them -- find one that looks like it will fit inside your existing can.
